The Cabrera Family

Hugo Cabrera and Isabel Rodriguez are the proud parents of three sons and one daughter. One day in 2022, the couple was at a meeting at their older sons’ school when they received a pamphlet with information about PCEP. At the time, their youngest son Nathan was two, and their daughter Celeste was still an infant. Hugo and Isabel enrolled, hoping what they learned would benefit all of their children.

Initially, Hugo struggled somewhat because he was new to many concepts presented in PCEP, but he quickly adapted. And the couple used the break from their hectic schedules to learn how to be better parents and teachers for their children while knowing their babies were being cared for in a developmentally stimulating setting. Early childhood education became the couple’s favorite thing about PCEP because of Nathan’s remarkable progress . He went from babbling to sounding out syllables and words at two years old. Much to his parents’ joy, he no longer cries at what he wants but communicates with his parents to let them know what he needs. For Hugo and Isabel, PCEP helped them recognize that their children have big feelings and gave them the tools to understand and channel those emotions to help their children as they grow.

The couple especially enjoyed creating educational toys and using them to engage with their children to help them learn, grasp ideas, and communicate. Their older sons also enjoy playing with the toys and hearing how they were made. By the end of PCEP, they even wanted their own toys.

Hugo and Isabel also found a community in PCEP, meeting and learning from other parents in the program. They came out of their shells and now know they are not alone as parents. Isabel, in particular, built strong bonds with the other moms, unforgettable connections she still holds dear to her heart. Working side-by-side, Hugo and Isabel are implementing everything they learned in PCEP, which has helped Nathan and Celeste and their older sons, who are already in school. Using their newfound knowledge and tools, Hugo and Isabel are building a brighter future for their family.
