El principio de AVANCE<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En 1972, dos estudiantes de posgrado que trabajaban bajo la direcci\u00f3n del Dr. Urie Bronfenbrenner pusieron en marcha un Programa Madre-Beb\u00e9 en una comunidad latina del sur de Dallas, Texas. Impresionado por el programa, el Sr. William Zale, entonces presidente em\u00e9rito de Zale Corporation, proporcion\u00f3 financiamiento inicial para replicar el programa en San Antonio. El 29 de agosto de 1973, la Dra. Gloria Rodr\u00edguez se convirti\u00f3 en la primera Directora del programa AVANCE en San Antonio. AVANCE se constituy\u00f3 como organizaci\u00f3n sin fines de lucro un poco m\u00e1s de dos semanas despu\u00e9s, el 14 de septiembre de 1973. Las primeras clases de AVANCE en San Antonio se llevaron a cabo en el Proyecto de Vivienda Federal Mirasol, en el lado oeste de San Antonio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AVANCE pronto se encontr\u00f3 en la necesidad de sostenerse por s\u00ed mismo, ya que la financiaci\u00f3n de la Fundaci\u00f3n Zale se termin\u00f3 en 1975, lo que oblig\u00f3 al cierre del sitio de Dallas poco despu\u00e9s, en 1976. Meanwhile, AVANCE as an organization has celebrated and endured the triumphs and adversities that come with the ebb and flow of time. In 1988, AVANCE expanded with the creation of the AVANCE-Houston Chapter, and in 1991, AVANCE established the National Office, separating from what is now the AVANCE-San Antonio Chapter. Twenty years after the closure of its first site, the organization returned to Dallas with the opening of AVANCE-North Texas in 1996. And in 1997, AVANCE expanded into the capital area with AVANCE-Austin. These Chapters stand strong today, a testament to the resilience of the organization. While there are no plans to open additional Chapters, AVANCE has continued to expand its reach through licensees across Texas, in California, and soon in many places beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n

King Charles III visits AVANCE<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

Throughout AVANCE history, the organization has earned broad recognition from various sources. Notable visits from national and international dignitaries include the Reverend Jesse Jackson, King Charles III, Oprah Winfrey, and former U.S. First Ladies Rosalynn Carter, Hillary Clinton, the late Barbara Bush, and Laura Bush. AVANCE has been featured in the New York Times, NBC\u2019s Education Nation, ABC’s World News Tonight and Good Morning America, along with several social documentaries such as Ounce of Prevention, Scared Silent, and No Small Matter. Other distinctions include Best Practices Award from the Texas Association of Parent Educators, HEB Excellence in Education Award, Simmons Luminary Award for Educational Excellence and many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
