Using a renowned dual-generation model, AVANCE empowers families to break the cycle of poverty by fostering parenting knowledge and skills that directly impact children’s development, while also providing the early education necessary for children’s long-term academic and personal success. AVANCE encourages parents to achieve their own educational and professional goals, which leads to financial independence and personal growth, a hallmark of the AVANCE model. Dedicated to serving socially and economically marginalized communities, AVANCE provides a culturally-sensitive intervention for families that is preventative, comprehensive, community-based, sequential, and supportive of partnerships and collaborative initiatives. AVANCE facilitates access to a variety of resources and social services for parents, and helps parents wary of bureaucratic systems navigate through the proper channels to seek health care for their children or apply for financial aid for college, for example.
AVANCE works not only to advocate for parents, but also to mentor parents so they can effectively navigate social systems and become leaders themselves. In addition, AVANCE actively engages local school districts and legislators to promote an agenda for early childhood education and support services for low-income parents. The initial intervention that begins with the family serves as a catalyst for a far-reaching ripple effect of greater community change.
