What We Do
Using a renowned two-generation model, AVANCE fosters parenting knowledge and skills that directly impact children’s development, while also empowering parents to achieve their own educational and professional goals. AVANCE works to ensure children are equipped with the tools necessary for long-term academic and personal success.
Simultaneously, parents develop as active and engaged role models, form their own social support network, and increase their own educational attainment.
The AVANCE Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP) enhances parents’ knowledge of child growth and development skills and solidifies their role as their child’s first and most important teacher for social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Through this increased knowledge, families create a cognitively enriched home environment.
PCEP primarily serves pregnant women and families with children from birth to age three because it is important to target this vulnerable population during pregnancy or soon after birth to prevent problems before they start and give both parents and the children the best opportunity for success. Prevention, rather than merely a treatment for the problems ill-equipped, economically disadvantaged parents face, is an essential foundation of AVANCE.
