AVANCE honored nationally in fight against poverty

Nonprofit group AVANCE Inc. has been recognized as one of the top 10 organizations in the nation that help break the poverty cycle through education and curriculum programs.

The organization was recognized in Susan B. Neuman’s, Ph.D. new book — “Changing the Odds for Children at Risk.”

Neuman is a professor at the University Of Michigan school of education and is the former assistant secretary for elementary and secondary education under President George W. Bush.

Since 1973, San Antonio-based AVANCE Inc. has provided parenting skills, early childhood development skills and school readiness tools to low-literacy, low-income parents with children from child birth to age 3.

The organization serves more than 20,000 parents and children annually through its AVANCE Parenting and Adult Literacy programs throughout Texas, New Mexico and California.
